Wyandotte Nation Casino Turns 2

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma is proud to announce the celebration of their second Birthday at Wyandotte Nation Casino in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. The celebration will officially start at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th with a cake cutting at the Casino attended by the head of the Wyandotte Nation, Chief Leaford Bearskin.

Chief Bearskin was born in northeast Oklahoma in 1921. He entered the military immediately following his graduation from high school in Wyandotte , OK in 1939. He was a B-24 Liberator commander in WW II where he flew 46 combat missions. After the war, Chief Bearskin graduated from the Staff Logistics Course at the Air University in Montgomery, AL and went on to serve a distinguished career including Squadron Commander of the Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Omaha, NE. He retired from military service in 1960 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He went on to work in a variety of civil military capacities including Executive Officer to the Director of Operations for the 15th Air Force. He retired from Federal Civil Service in 1979 having served his country for a total of 41 years. He and his wife, Barbara Cannon Bearskin, moved to his native Wyandotte, Oklahoma and built their retirement home on Grand Lake . In September of 1983, he was elected Chief of the Wyandotte Nation, a capacity he has served since that time. During his tenure as Chief, the tribe has made vast improvements in health care, education, employment and culture and heritage preservation. Under Chief Bearskin’s leadership, the tribe has developed many nationally recognized programs including a Tribal Pre-School Program noted as best in the nation.

The Wyandotte Nation would like to invite their friends in the press to attend their birthday festivities starting with a ceremonial cake cutting at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th and culminating with drawings for two new cars; one at midnight on Saturday the 18th and the second on Sunday at 10:00 p.m.
